		<description>I can&#039;t resist playing devil&#039;s advocate.  Politically, the 20th Century was overwhelmingly the century of ever-expanding nanny-statist government in the US, and most of the blame belongs to women voters.  The suffragettes and the &quot;temperance&quot; (prohibition) movement were mostly the same people, and still largely are; one only has to go to a MADD or League of Women Voters meeting to see this.

So while giving women the vote was superficially more &quot;fair&quot; than continuing to exclude them, it has resulted in some laws that, on net, have made it a very bad idea.  Maybe the only way we can get back as much freedom as we had in 1900 is to take the vote away from women again.

I hope I&#039;m wrong, since it&#039;s unlikely to happen.</description>
