I can’t spot a difference between the legal argument against gay marriage and the now discredited argument against female suffrage. And from my view, the rationale driving the war on drugs is essentially the same rational behind gun control. Take note, Republicans.

I leave you with this gem. Three cheers, respectively, to economic, civil, and political freedom.

I can’t resist playing devil’s advocate. Politically, the 20th Century was overwhelmingly the century of ever-expanding nanny-statist government in the US, and most of the blame belongs to women voters. The suffragettes and the “temperance” (prohibition) movement were mostly the same people, and still largely are; one only has to go to a MADD or League of Women Voters meeting to see this.

So while giving women the vote was superficially more “fair” than continuing to exclude them, it has resulted in some laws that, on net, have made it a very bad idea. Maybe the only way we can get back as much freedom as we had in 1900 is to take the vote away from women again.

I hope I’m wrong, since it’s unlikely to happen.
